“Dreamgirls” actress Jennifer Hudson was living a nightmare Friday as Chicago cops hunted for the killer of her beloved mother and brother at the family’s South Side home.
The manhunt focused on a violent ex-con described as “armed and dangerous” who investigators think abducted Hudson’s missing 7-year-old nephew, Julian King.
There were unconfirmed reports in Chicago newspapers late Friday night that cops had arrested 27-year-old William Balfour.
But the 5-foot-tall, 135-pound youngster was still missing.
On his MySpace page, Balfour, who once gave the Hudson’s home as his address, calls Jennifer’s older sister Julia his “wife” and the boy his stepson.

Hudson family matriarch Darnell Hudson Donerson, 57, was discovered shot dead at the family’s large white house on the 7000 block of South Yale Ave. in Englewood - about 5 miles from the home of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama - shortly before 3 p.m. Friday, authorities said.
Police said one of Hudson’s cousins found Donerson on a living room floor with a bullet in her head.
The singer’s older brother Jason Hudson, 29, was shot in the chest in a bedroom, they said.
At least one of the victims had defensive wounds, but detectives wouldn’t say which.
“Right now, we’re handling this as a homicide,” confirmed Officer John Mirabelli of the Chicago Police Department.

Investigators said there were no signs of forced entry and said the crime may be “domestic related” because Jennifer Hudson’s nephew was gone.
The boy “may be in the company of a male African American in his late 20s who is the father of the child,” Mirabelli said, adding that an Amber Alert had been issued.
Balfour, paroled after pleading guilty to attempted murder and vehicular hijacking in 1999 and serving 7 years, was thought to be driving a Chrysler Concorde or Chevy Suburban, he said.
Motor vehicles records show the Suburban was registered to Jason Hudson.
The romantic link between Balfour and Hudson’s older sister Julia, Julian’s mom, was sketchy but clearly evident on Julia’s MySpace page.
In her profile, Julia, 31, listed her No. 1 best friend as her mom, her second as “William” and her third as Jennifer. She also said her mom is the person she most admires while “William” was “most likely” to get arrested.
A MySpace photo of William is endearingly titled “My William.”
In his profile, Balfour declared, “I don’t tolerate b——, so don’t come at me with it. I like to live life and experience everything. That’s why I’m here seeing what it’s about.”
He then drops Hudson’s name, saying, “I might as well let you all know that Jennifer Hudson is my wife’s sister. I’m proud of her and wish her nothing but the best in what she do, but don’t hit me up asking about her.”
Hudson, 27, is seen by millions as the embodiment of the American dream because she was rejected from “American Idol” but later went on to win an Oscar for her role in the hit 2006 musical “Dreamgirls.” She currently co-stars in the Queen Latifah movie “The Secret Life of Bees.”
A supporter of Obama, Hudson sang the national anthem at the Democratic Party’s convention in Denver in August on the night when he accepted the presidential nomination.
Hudson, who lost her dad when she was a teen, often credits her close-knit family for keeping her grounded.
“My family, they’re very realistic and normal. They’re not into the whole limelight kind of thing, so when I go home to Chicago, that’s just another place that’s home,” she said in a recent interview.
This is terrible news for J.Hud, and although I’ not a fan of hers I can understand what shes gonna go through. And yeah its sad her family still lived in a bad area, but it was already explained that they refused to move out. Glamor and luxury is not for everyone. I hope her nephew is well and alive, and that she can pull through this tragedy.

I can’t believe the losers who’re posting on this. NOBODY deserves anything like this to happen to them, EVER. I hate American Idol (the product), but Jennifer is a huge inspiration to everyone, everywhere (I’ve got nothing against anyone who’s been on American Idol, well, except maybe Sanjaya, who just sucks). It was a great stepping stone for Jennifer to get out there and have her talent recognized. I just wish I could give her a big hug and tell her everything will be alright, but as long as this loser is out there, it obviously won’t be.

This is a tragedy. I cannot even begin to imagine the kind of pain she is going through…I hope Justice is served and the killer rots in ****!! My prayers are with you jennifer.
The guy was a crackhead who lived with them. That doesn’t surprise me. But this is very sad and I send my condolences to Jennifer Hudson and her family
I’m sorry but if there is an amber alert out for the child why isn’t his picture plastered all over the newspapers? If he were a white, cute, blond kid their would be non-stop coverage. Disgusting.
