American Idol Charity: Emmy-winning Idol Gives Back returns to charities
The Annual Special Airs First On Star World
The Emmy-winning Idol Gives Back returns to help raise awareness and funds to benefit US and international charities on Thu, 10 April @ 2pm (UAE).
Last season Idol Gives Back raised over US$76mil and was recognized for introducing life-changing programs. The initiatives delivered support to underprivileged children in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the country, providing them with medical care, food and grocery products, health and life skills and literacy programs, among other important initiatives. In Africa, funds were dedicated to organizations that support efforts to battle poverty through various health and education programs, including delivering medical supplies and providing clean water.
This year’s event has attracted an illustrious group of participants, including Bono, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Connolly, Miley Cyrus, Billy Crystal, Celine Dion, Gloria Estefan, John Legend, Annie Lennox and Robin Williams. American Idol alum joining in the fundraising event includes Chris Daughtry, Fantasia, Elliot Yamin and Carrie Underwood.
Hosted by Ryan Seacrest and Ellen DeGeneres, Idol Gives Back will allow US viewers to make donations via toll-free phone lines and the Internet. “Everyone knows it’s better to give than to receive,” said DeGeneres. “Give yourself a treat and watch Idol Gives Back. Again, you get the joy of giving and an amazing line-up of artists get to give us an incredible show. Last year, we were able to giveaway over $76 million. You give, you get. Get it?”
While Ryan will host the show from the American Idol stage, Ellen will front the ceremony from the famed Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.
Money raised during the two-and-a-half-hour special will be distributed to the following beneficiaries: Children’s Defense Fund; The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; Make it Right; Malaria No More; Save the Children; and the Children’s Health Fund.
